Open the Configuration Manager console

  • From the Workspace click Administration, from the Navigation Pane click Updates and Servicing. Highlight Configuration Manager 1910
  • From the Ribbon, Run the Prerequisite check.
  • The Prerequisite check – Verifies that the Server is setup correctly before the SCCM update has started.

It logs its results in the ConfigMgrPrereq.log file Located in C:\ ConfigMgrPrereq.log

  • This takes about 15 minutes.
  • You can check the status of the prerequisite check from Monitoring, Distribution Status, Update and Servicing Status. Now right click on Configuration Manager 1910, then click Show Status.
  • After the Prerequisite check successfully completes. Status will show completed.
  • Stop the Video while you do this.
  • Now let’s go back to updates and Servicing, click CM 1910, then Click install Update Pack.
  • The General Page displays what will be installed in this update

The list includes, Site server updates, console updates, client updates, fixes and several new features, click next

Here on the Features page we accept the defaults. One of the new features is

  • Bit Locker Management – which enables you to setup BitLocker drive encryption for clients

If you need to add any of these other options, you can add them later from the Updates and

Servicing, node in the configuration console. Click next

Client Update Options page

  • Here we select Upgrade without Validating because we want to overwrite our current Configuration Manager Client Package. All new Client installations and client upgrades use this new client update.
  • If you choose to Validate in pre-production collection - that means that you will not be updating your client packages in this step. You will have to update the client packages later. You can update the client packages from the Configuration Manager console, from the updates and servicing node.
  • Please note not included in video:

Some people prefer this option because it gives you the ability to test the client on a group of computers in a collection before you deploy the client out to your production environment.

If you would like to learn more about upgrading the configuration manager client, I have provided additional information that you should find interesting

  • Now click next
  • Click I accept the License Terms, click next,
  • View the Summary, then click next
  • After the installation has completed, click close.

That only took 4 or 5 minutes to complete, most of the work is being done on the back end, and that takes time. Depending upon your Configuration Manager infrastructure this process could take several hours. So be patient.

  • You can check the update status from Monitoring, Overview, Updates and Services Status. Right click on Configuration Manager 1910, then click Show Status. After the update has completed, you will see post installation completed.
  • Stop the video and we’ll catch up with you later.

Updating the Outdated Console

Open the console, if you are not running the latest console you should receive a warning that say’s that there is a new version of the console available. If you don’t see the warning refresh the console or close and reopen it.

Your version numbers may be slightly different than what is displayed.

Click ok, the console update will start automatically.

  • Wait for the install to complete. Once completed the console will open and you will be running the latest Configuration Manager console version.
