I cannot promote second dc due to this message “You must supply an user account name”, which I have.

Hi profile avatar Paul Ma

You can try with the domain administrator and the password. If this does not work, you can add a new user to AD, add it to the domain admins group and then try promoting the second server using these credentials.

Hi profile avatar Susan David-Aaron

To properly score the installation check, you do a Custom installation. The script checks if you choose a Desktop Experience and if a password of Pa$$w0rd (with a cero) when asked for credentials during installation.

Hi profile avatar Lawrence Wayne Austin

I see that you have completed the lab for Section 4: Adding a Second Domain Controller including Section 5: Active Directory Backups. Let us know if that looks different from your end.

Hi profile avatar Savio Augustine

If you are having issues with the Domain Admin account and credentials are ok check if there’s network connectivity between both with name resolution working. Try pinging the server and using its IP Address as the DNS of the second one.

I cannot access my course, Active Directory & Identity with Windows Server. No matter what link I click on, or how many times, it always brings me to this “Comments” page. I need to work on this now while I have a moment but this site is broken. 👎

I am unable to promote the SADC02 to the ad.serveracademy.com. I received an error saying the Server is not operational.

Hi profile avatar Rashidat Bisuga

If you have the DNS set to the IP address of SADC01, then on the authentication box to discover the Domain type for username AD\Administrator, otherwise it will resolve to SADC02 and will give the message of the Server is not operational.

Hi profile avatar Brady Durham

I have uploaded a screenshot of the window “Deployment Configuration” step where you click the Change button to enter the credentials. Note that also the error message displays when the second server is not joined to the domain.

I hope it helps clarify it. If you need more clarification, let us know.

I’m sorry to bother with this as so many already have. I’ve read the responses and tried the solutions I believe and yet I still receive, when attempting to promote the server “ Server is not operational”. Every step before as received a green. 🙄 What am I missing exactly? Thanks

Hi profile avatar Tyneshia Mack

In most of the cases, it is related to networking. Checking network connectivity or ping and DNS name resolution can help solve the issue. Check the domain is correct and use the administrator domain credentials.

I keep on trying to promote the second DC but it keeps erroring like it does not exist. I have checked my IP settings several times and made an account even which was not asked for. Would the Product ID not being activated be the source of my problem?

Hi profile avatar Jason Druskis

I don’t think the Product ID has something to do. Typically you would have some days to use the product.
Can you provide the IP network information of each VM? make sure both VMs are powered on at the same time. Can you share the error message? that will point us in the right direction.

Thank you,

Ricardo

Hi, I can install the server but I cannot rename it. I’m constantly prompted back to the installation wizard after each restart. I’m quite sure if I am missing a step but despite all my googling, I can’t see what I am doing wrong. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi profile avatar Alicia McLemore Bal

If you are prompted for the installation wizard it might be because the ISO file is on the CD device. When it reboots don’t press any key to let t boot to the Hard Disk or see if you can remove it. Can you explain a little more what is not working when renaming the server?
Let me know how it goes.

Hi profile avatar Chkontog

Things to check:
SADC02 is a domain controller
Both Domain controllers are online
You have registered the schema management dll

As seen in the photo, i have done the lab “Promote SADC02 as a domain controller to the ad.serveracademy.com domain”, but at the second picture the domain controller isn’t online”.Also, i have registered the schema management dll, with the command “regsvr32 schmmgmt.dll”

To solve the online issue just reboot the SADC02 server it might brinfg it back online.

I received the same message that the Active Directory Schema snap-in is not connected to the Schema operations master. I let it sit while researching and when ahead and did network checks like comparing IP address of SADC02 match SADC01 and performing a ping.

I went ahead and repeat the process after rebooting the servers. I then repeat the steps done before. Ignored the message and just proceed and right click the Active Directory Schema node under Console Root and click Operations Masters.

Confirm that the target server is the right server and then click Change.

It is funny since I was getting another pop up that was not connected to schema opration masters but this time I didn’t.

checked with netdom query fsmo command and see the role transferred.

Attached some screenshots during the process.

Checked the Infrastructure role check script and is working. The role to transfer is Infrastructure from Active Directory Users and Computers.

Quick Question, why don’t the submitted labs have my name on it. It allows our Labs to be saved but does not have our names on it that we have completed trainings to our credit. I would like to know if you might add my name to the lab. As this would be my proof that I paid for training and completed the lab with stellar completion scores. Please let me know. I would like to post my lab scores with my name on LinkedIn. Not just a certificate that I have completed the training. But show what training I have completed. Is this at all possible?

I keep getting the (server is not operational) error message when trying to promote the second domain controller. I’ve typed in a bunch of single password and username combinations for this part, but nothing is changing.

Hi profile avatar Koron Mendez

You might need to join the server to the domain, and then configure the server to be a domain controller. The error indicates that is not reaching the primary domain controller or there is an issue with authentication. Also, when promoting the second server make sure you are selecting “Add a domain controller to an existing domain” radio button. The password should be the primary domain administrator password.

Which window server do I choose, I tried many combinations of them, and do I click on custom or upgrade because I tried different things and sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t.

Hi profile avatar Koron Mendez

The Windows Server is Standard Desktop Experience (same as the primary). Custom is the option to choose during setup.
